9th annual Fresh Hop Ale Festival - October 1 2011 - Yakima Washington USA

October 1 is the day of an exciting beer event right in the heart of Washington State Hop Country, The Fresh Hop Ale Festival in Yakima Washington! 


Besides the bounty of its hop harvest, Yakima claims one of the craft brewing industry’s roots: the original home of America’s first post-prohibition brewpub. As ales, stouts and hefeweizens continue to gain popularity, Yakima is the place to experience some of the finest examples. 

Not only that, there's live music, food, wines, a cigar tent, and more! This is Yakima's biggest (and some say best) street party of the year - all taking place in Millennium Plaza in downtown Yakima.

This festival includes 24 craft brewers and one cider house bringing their finest fresh hop ales. There is also a home brew competition where yours truly will be entering Raw Reed Ale made with a confusing combination of fresh Ahtanum, Centennial, and palisades hops. 


For a brew to be considered a “fresh hop ale” for the festival competition, it must be produced with hops that were picked no more than 24 hours prior to brewing (talk about overnight shipping!). Fresh Hop Ale is produced throughout the month of September, timing dependent on the growth of each year’s hop harvest. Brewers then bring their freshly brewed kegs of beer to the fest, where a panel of judges selects first, second and third place Fresh Hop Ales. Festival-goers vote with their taste buds— a “Most Pours Award” crowns the crowd favorite.


The Fresh Hop Ale Festival benefits Allied Arts of Yakima and contributes 20% of their annual budget. 


GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS

Currently pre-sale ($30) tickets are on sale at local businesses around the valley (listed below) during regular business hours through noon on Friday September 30.

Plenty of tickets will also be available for $35 at the gate.

Ticket price includes a commemorative beer glass and $6 scrip (used instead of cash for beer and wine. Food is CASH ONLY). ID is required for everyone, from 21 to 91!
